Major events in 2019

“TV/Internet/Phone. For everyone. Everywhere” strategic concept. New services: IPTV cable service and OTT web TV.

In 2019, in line with the strategic idea of “Television/Internet/Phone. For Everyone. Everywhere,” the Group consistently worked on the development of its services so as to make them available to all Polish families in a convenient manner and with the use of diverse technologies. In accordance with the earlier announcements two new TV services were launched – IPTV-based cable TV and web TV with an OTT set-top box. The new services enable reception of TV channels over the Internet, without having to install a satellite dish. IPTV is available in a subscription model with nearly the same packages as Cyfrowy Polsat’s DTH satellite TV offer and it ensures access to a rich offer of programs provided by the platform. The flexible OTT programming offer assures the possibility of free activation of program packages directly from the set-top box, without any long-term commitment.

Sale of fixed-line Internet access, which is offered under the Plus brand, has started thanks to gaining access to Netia’s telecommunication infrastructure. The services are also offered in fiber-optic technology which supports data speeds of up to 1 Gbps and reaches more than 2.7 million households all over Poland.

JV agreement with Discovery and TVN concerning launch of a joint OTT streaming platform

In October 2019 Cyfrowy Polsat and Discovery signed a joint venture agreement regarding the establishment of a joint OTT platform which will be available on the Polish market as well as abroad. The new service is a one-stop-shop for access to Polish movies, TV series, documentaries, sports and entertainment programs. The offer will include a wide array of local productions from Polsat and TVN as well as content from external producers, and also own productions made by the newly established company.

Strategic alliance with Asseco Poland

In December 2019 Cyfrowy Polsat acquired 22.73% of shares of Asseco Poland – the biggest Polish IT company – and at the same time announced further development of the cooperation between the leaders of the Polish economy.

Start of roll-out of the first commercial 5G network

The Group has successfully completed the 5G technology testing phase and commenced the roll out of the first in Poland commercial 5G network which will rely on the spectrum from the 2600 MHz TDD frequency band.  Plus customers gained access to 5G network in May 2020.

Boosting of the premium sports offer

Adding Canal+ Sport 3 and Canal+ Sport 4 TV channels, featuring the PKO BP Ekstraklasa premiership football matches, to the TV offer perfectly complements Polsat Sport Premium channels with UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches as well as the Eleven Sports channels which feature the biggest European football leagues.

Supporting cinema productions

Movie productions ”Jak poślubić milionera” (“How to marry a millionaire?”), „(Nie)znajomi”, „Psy 3. W imię zasad” (Pigs 3 – In the name of principles) and „Jak zostałem gangsterem. Historia prawdziwa” (How I became a gangster. A true story) proved very successful commercially. During the initial weeks of screening the latter two titles attracted over a million viewers to cinemas.

Adoption of a new attractive dividend policy

On 15 March 2019 the Management Board of Cyfrowy Polsat adopted the new dividend policy which provides for payout of the dividend in the total amount of PLN 2.79 per share in the years 2019-2021 in three equal installments, i.e., at least PLN 0.93 per share in the years 2019, 2020 and 2021.
